If you notice Zombies scaling your wall, bring in some Materials to automatically repair it. Obviously Food and Medicine are both important, but without Materials, stuff may start breaking down around the base without a way to fix it. The more members you have, the more items will be used.
Check your journal to see how much of each will be used every day by the community. The necessary Stockpiles for survival include Food, Medicine, Ammo, Materials, and Fuel. Only one bundle can be carried at a time, but others can be marked for later scavengers. Look for big Resource Bundles while scavenging to transport to your Home Base.
The community won't last long without supplies, and a handful of items won't always suffice.
